The Crystal Waters Community Cooperative hosts PDC’s in the village, traditionally once a year, but now twice a year, in Spring and in Autumn. Robin has hosted, programmed and coordinated the presenter’s team and the catering for the last two courses as well as presenting the majority of sessions. Many other Crystal Waters and Local presenters join her to form a dynamic teaching and facilitation team, including Max Lindegger, Annaliese Hordern, Conor Cran, Jess Steele, Richard Mochelle, Nigel Paratt and several other guest presenters. The course features many practical examples of Permaculture, hands on sessions, Crystal Waters and local permaculture garden tours, theory sessions and a culminating hands-on design exercise that brings all the learning from the intensive two week program to an exciting climax. Robin and Erin are receiving great feedback from the Social Permaculture Weekends they’ve been running for the last few years. It has seemed like a wise decision to offer a second workshop for the year in October on the 8th and 9th given the extent of interest and encouragement. In modern times we seem to have lost the age old tradition of supporting our young people to make the transition from boyhood or girlhood or young personhood into young adulthood. Virtually all indigenous cultures have Rites of Passage imbedded in their way of life and use ceremony, challenge, storytelling and wisdom sharing as key elements to support the change. Often the young people are witnessed and celebrated as they return to community after an experience in nature, away from daily life and distractions. In recent decades in Australia we have had the Pathways to Manhood and Pathways to Womanhood which in Queensland has now evolved into Journeys to Manhood and Journeys into Womanhood. Over 300 Woodfordia Citizens, staff, volunteers and Woodford Folk Festival organisers and friends got together recently for a weekend of reconnecting, future planning, ideas generation, music, fun and mural painting. The main highlight was the announcement that the Woodford Folk Festival is back this December, as usual pre Covid, from 27th December to 1st January. The Saturday program of the Citizen’s ‘Gathering the tribe’ weekend began with Robin leading a one hour Reconnection session with participants, followed by a stunning performance by Linsey Pollak. After lunch lots of subgroups formed to brainstorm and develop ideas for getting the word out about the festival, supporting volunteers, forming an onsite logistics working group as well as discussing ideas for The Planting Festival to have a new life and initiate the Conservatree project. Crystal Waters Eco Village has established its reputation as an important centre for Permaculture here in South East Queensland with its history going back over 32 years. Robin Clayfield and Crystal Waters Community Cooperative will host a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) from 8th to 22nd August, 2021 with many Crystal Waters and other local Permaculture teachers, facilitators and guest presenters. Bruce Gibson is the Organiser of the overall logistics, website, bookings and admin for this annual course which is a fund raiser for the Community Cooperative and its village enhancing facilities. The 2021 Course will be the first one where Robin has organized the program, presenters and kitchen goodness, having been a Special Guest in past Co Op Courses led by Max Lindegger and Bruce. Australasian Permaculture Convergence 2021Celebrating Nature’s AbundanceMonday 12 April to Thursday 15 April 2021at Camp Kindilan, Redland Bay, Queensland. The 2020 Australasian Permaculture Convergence (APC) was postponed to April 2021 due to the COVID19 pandemic. The program will be kept as close as possible to the one planned for last year but with necessary changes. The APC is a biennial gathering of permaculture people from around the country and the Asia Pacific region. All people with an interest in permaculture and regenerative development are invited to join for four days of workshops, hands-on activities and discussions on how we can both celebrate and support nature’s abundance. The Quandamooka First Nations people are the traditional custodians of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) and the Southern Moreton Bay region including Redland Bay.
